Dear Friends:

On behalf of Bishop Wilfrido Ramos, I am writing to tell you that last weekend, while on a trip to Ecuador with his wife Marling, Wilfrido became ill and was admitted to the hospital in Quito. He is feeling much better, and they returned to Connecticut on Sunday. Today, his doctor determined that Wilfrido has an enlarged prostate, and that he should have surgery soon. The surgery has been scheduled for Friday this week, and the doctor is confident of Wilfrido’s complete recovery.

We have canceled the Evensong and Reception at Christ Church Cathedral scheduled for Sunday afternoon, May 7.

Bishop Ramos will not be able to meet his scheduled commitments for the next several weeks. Bishop Curry and I are making adjustments to our calendars to cover Bishop Ramos’s commitments until he has regained his strength. If you have questions about events or appointments on Bishop Ramos' schedule, please call his Administrative Assistant, Mayra Novo, at Diocesan House (860-233-4481).

We are continuing our efforts to raise money for the purchase of a vehicle by the Diocese of Ecuador Central for the bishop’s ministry there. Please be as generous as you can. Make checks payable to the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut, mark them in honor of Bishop Ramos, and send them to Diocesan House at 1335 Asylum Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105.

Thank you for your prayers and your blessings for Bishop Ramos. His ministry has been such a gift to our diocese. We pray for Marling and Wilfrido, and especially for his rapid healing.
