On Sunday, May 22, the Outreach Committee hosted the fellowship coffee hour and served fair trade coffee and tea. Fair Trade means that farmer cooperatives are guaranteed a minimum price for their product regardless of how low the commodity market falls. This ensures farmers a living wage even when market prices are too low to maintain acceptable living standards. By purchasing fair trade coffee or tea we can support small-scale farmers in the world economy, just as we would support our local farmers at farmers markets and farm stands.

This is a small but significant way in which members of St. Paul’s can be in solidarity with the poor in other parts of the world.
