A minor Quotation of the Week

I came across this in an article in Friday's edition of the Wall Street Journal's web page. While I often feel confounded by the understanding of religion, especially Christianity, held by those in higher education, this one particularly amused me, coming as it does from a state university system's "rules" for what constitutes appropriate and rigorous study in high schools:

"Religion and ethics courses are acceptable . . . as long as they . . . do not include among its [sic] primary goals the personal religious growth of the student."

Yes, you can study moral and ethical thought, but it is only valid as a course of study when it has no effect on you.
