Word of the Week

Deacon

The initial rank in the three holy orders of ordained ministry, which are deacon, priest, and bishop.

There are two types of deacons - transitional deacons, who will soon be ordained to the priesthood, and permanent deacons, who choose the order as a permanent servant ministry.

Priests are initially ordained as deacons to remind them and the Church that they are, and always will be, servants (Matthew 20:25-28).
